You guys may remember I used to bang on and on about this idea for a fic about pony pirates? It was inspired a lot by One Piece, and it became a bit of a running joke as I would often talk non stop about it but never actually do it. It also varied from being a fic to a webcomic to just a tumblr series. Then I started focusing more on Uni and it just slipped away.
Well, it never really died. It just went dormant, and now that I've finished with Uni I can return to it. In the hiatus I kinda realised what was wrong with it. I never actually had a story, only character concepts. Also, to just make it about pirates was very limiting. First of all, if they are pirates out at sea on a ship, then what is basically happening there is that they're leaving this vibrant world of Equestia to sit in an empty ocean on a boat. Equestria has cowboys, caves, mythical monsters and varied towns. These are the places they should be going to.
So what I turned it into instead was to have a unicorn stallion named 'Make Believe' who is a traveling adventurer who meets friends along the way. And these friends are a pirate, a cowboy, a 'wizard' etc. it's all explained better on my DA page. And they of course have an airship or big RV type thing or even a floating castle. Some sort of cool traveling vehicle of some sort. I was calling it Adventures of Make Believe of course.
Anyway, this thread will be the place to talk about and post it as I do it. It's been badly neglected so I do need to get my head back into the game.

You can start by writing something.

Well duh. : P
I'll need to get a proper computer again to do serious writing, as an iPhone is not suitable for it. But I'll get to writing soon, one day.

It's weird how Hollywood can read my mind. I've been thinking of making the lead of my story a former crook turned good knight in service of the princesses (particularly twilight) and suddenly out comes a film starring Colin Firth called Kingsmen; the secret service. Which is about a car thief being recruited by an international secret service. Still, common enough idea I guess.
I think I'm going to go to the library again even though I'm done with Uni, just to get access to a real computer. This phone is driving me nuts!

Well, the whole "Crook turned good" thing isn't really uncommon. The TV show Leverage (which is really good, btw) is based entirely around it.

Well, the whole "Crook turned good" thing isn't really uncommon. The TV show Leverage (which is really good, btw) is based entirely around it. That's true. And y'know, seeing Red Dwarf at the comicon (and on TV of course), and watching South Park, and reading the Three Musketeers among other things I can't remember at the moment has made me realize that when it comes to groups of guys as friends, four seems to be the best number. Applying this to my work, it makes me think that the group should be comprised of one of each of the three 'normal' pony tribes, and be lead by one of the unusual pony types. In the past I would have said a bat pony. Then I started getting cold feet about writing about something which the show has largely left unexplained, for fear of my work being contradicted in the future. Which led to think that a Crystal Pony might be the ideal solution. If you're reading this then by now you've probably realized that I'm procrastinating because I've got both writers block (again) and I'm very worried at the moment because I'm broke, I haven't gotten a career sorted out, and the summer job I was counting on has run into some difficulties. So far from hoping that finishing uni would give me time to write, all it's really done is load me up with a new set of writing blocking worries.

Protip: There will always be distractions. Just write something anyway. You can edit later. Don't spend too much time worrying about plans.

Thanks JT. I'll just make sure this summer job is ok and then I'll get to it.

Eeyup. I've said it once, I've said it a billion times: your worst enemy here is your tendency to try to perfect everything before writing. It's not gonna happen.

I'm having doubts about my current fan fic.
In case i forgot to mention it earlier, the basic premise is that Chrysalis replaces Cadence in the story, starting with the season 2 finale. She changes sides, fights of the changelings, saves the crystal empire from Sombra, etc. all while hiding the fact that she isn't who she says she is.
Here's the problem. How do I justify her becoming an anti-hero instead of a villain? Why would she betray the changelings? I don't know if I can really do it.

Maybe she grows closer to SA, Celestia, and Luna when she actually gets to experience how love and friendship works outside of "eating it".

Should I recast this thread as a general musing thread?

JT- I guess that works? I'm not sure how I'll have it happen, though. And that's the problem here. I know where I want the story to go, but I need to justify getting there.

Yeah, that happens to me a lot. I'll have a scene I want to write, but getting to that point naturally can be a chore.
