I need to come up with a really bizarre muffin flavor. Something Derpy would eat for only the most special of occasions. Something Derpy would needs a doctor's permission to eat more than twice in a 6-month period. Something that doesn't even sound edible, and you just have to believe Derpy that it is.
So far, ingredients I'm considering include: chili powder, caramelized (hay) bacon, cranberries, and durian.

The chilli powder one sounds the most prohibitive one to me on account of it being spicy.

Pinkie would love them.

Durian definitely sounds like a good one, at least due to the smell. Ghost Chili would be a good one as well.

I think I didn't make myself clear. I'm considering those ingredients together.
EDIT: Last time I was at Trader Joe's, I saw they sold ghost chili pepper grinders. It really struck me as an accident waiting to happen.

That would also work. Though I'd advise against going too far overboard. Better to have 2 or 3 extreme ingredients rather than trying to have so many all squashed in there.

I'm looking forward to the end of this job I'm doing, as I'll have around a month or so to myself to go back to recreational writing. Right now this job letter (and the possible interview after) is on my mind too much to think about fanfiction. It'll be good to be settled let me tell you. Btw, my fic is starting to resemble a 1980s era adventure of the week type deal. Incidentally, the 'smart' guy in such shows always wears glasses and is the tallest in the group. Just something to bare in mind when designing characters I guess. This is crap I know, but I just wanted you to let you all know that I am still doing this thing. It's just that I have so much on it's really holding me back. The founder of Kickstarter is right...doing a job whilst trying to pursue serious creative endeavers is near impossible.

This is probably not the appropriate thread for this, but I don't think it deserves it's own little rant thread.
I've kind of come to realize that a fic can turn me off really quickly when they begin character establishment especially when they do it through dialogue. I find that a lot of authors will just seem to say "I know how these characters work, and to prove it too my audience I will make them say things that they have 'always' said in the show." In practice though the dialogue is almost always cliche and may or may not assume that things they have only said a few times are actually catchphrases they use on a regular basis.
Of course I say this and I am almost certain that I would fall into the same trap, or go the exact opposite way and make characters say things that make no sense coming from them.

Yeah, that bugs me as well. They try to boil the characters down to their "catchphrases", and half the time that isn't even something the characters say a lot. Even when they do, it's not like Rarity says "Darling" every sentence either.

I forced myself to write Rarity without letting her say "darling" or "dear" at all, I think.

I'm working on Ditzy Doo’s backstory. So far, the idea is that she was born in Ponyville, then moved to Cloudsdale with her parents. After she finished school, she drifted from town to town for a few years before winding up in Ponyville and settling down for good. All of this happened before the first episode of the show, of course.
Would it be too contrived if, during her drifting, Ditzy crossed paths with Trixie, and they wound up traveling together for a few weeks?

And upon further thought, if I do make Ditzy and Trixie traveling companions, I'll need to make a proper short story of it. Because the current format I'm writing (epistolary story) really wouldn’t do justice to Trixie's hamminess.

FIM is one of those shows where it seems like things like that happen. And god yes, please write a Trixie/Ditzy story!

I think it would work pretty well. Trixie travels a lot, so there's no reason she couldn't come across Ditzy at some point.

Hmm...
"What are you doing out in these woods at this hour? Are you some kind of highway robber? Are you going to rob the Great and Powerful Trixie?!"
"Uh... no."
"Why not? Trixie has many things worth stealing!"
"What?"
"Don't you back away like that. Come over here and try to rob Trixie!"
