Come for Big Mac crossdressing; stay for the surprisingly effective emotions and character development in the final scene.
And it's pretty much official that Rainbow Dash is Scootaloo's surrogate sister now.

Hasn't that been official for like, forever?
But yeah, he got some really great character development. He has more dialogue in this episode than in every other episode of the show combined.

So, this is the first time I've watched a new episode of pony in months. The episode kind of caught my interest since it was a Big Mac episode of all things. I have to admit it felt weird to be watching the show again.
As for the episode itself, I don't remember Applebloom being quite as annoying as she was in the beginning. Her praise of Applejack dragged on too long I feel.
Apart from that, it was a nice episode. Big Mac's routine as Orchard Blossom was fun, and it was good to see him get some characterization after all this time.
So yeah, good episode. Don't think I'll be watching another unless it really catches my attention.

Oh god, the feels in this episode. I'm actually glad they didn't end up winning the race. I think it reinforces the bonding moment they had at the end.
This is probably the most we'll hear from Big Mac for... well, ever. Probably.
Also, is it just me, or does Sweetie Belle's voice sound just a tad older?

I agree, there was some good feels in this episode. And it was hilarious too. Sweetie does sound a little older too. This season they're really emphasising how special the mane six are to others due to abilities and deeds (applejack to the rest of the family, the rest of ponyville to the mane six in DPDOMS and the Cranky Miltda wedding one).
That line Rainbow said, "don't think we'll take it easy on you just because you're a stallion". Casual flippant remark? Or is Equestria really like the opposite to typical real world gender stereotypes? Food for thought.

I always thought that pony society was at least somewhat matriarchal but not explicitly so. If it is anything like the real world then that was pretty nasty comment by RD, so I'm going assume it's not. Then again if anypony was going to put forth vaguely sexist statements Rd makes the most sense.

I doubt it is, given that Big Macintosh has been repeatedly shown to be ridiculously strong, even by Earth Pony standards. So it's pretty likely that she was just blustering. But mainly it's probably just meant to be a reversal of the standard cliche than anything.

Yeah I'm probably thinking too much into it.
