So what's everyone's opinions?

Personally, I think it was a return to form after S3. Not that S3 was bad, mind you, just that the short length didn't do it any favors. It got off to a bit of a weak start, and didn't have long to build momentum before the end. And the whole Alicorn thing kinda overshadowed everything. S4 had more focus and didn't have any big issue overshadowing it like S3 did.

I pretty much agree. I'd say overall that season four has been the best so far, in that it's had the most consistently good episodes. Both season and two had some duds, and as you say season three just wasn't long enough.
Plus the whole rainbow thing was the best arc so far imo too.

I don't know if I'd say it was the best; the first two seasons still have some of my favorite episodes. It's definitely on par, though. You're right that S4 doesn't have as many dud episodes though. I know there were a few that were kinda weak (Daring Don't comes to mind), but nothing that had ridiculous issues like MMDW did.

I guess that since the first two basically laid the ground work for all our appreciation for the show they'll always be ranked highly.
Season four definitely gave us some of the best new characters though, like Maude Pie, Coco, that puppet pony, Cheese Sandwhich etc.

Does the puppet pony have a name? If not, I'm going to call him Stromboli.

Yeah, there were a lot of great new characters. I don't know what the deal is with the puppet pony.

That's a good a name as any!
I had a theory about the keys too, which is obvious now probably. They were made magic by the revelation, not that they were always magic and just had to be presented to the girls. I wanted to share this ages ago.

I almost asked if the puppet pony was directed towards me until I realize who you were talking about.
As for my take, well,... I'm ashamed you humans didn't see all of the Equestria Games. They were a blast. Then again, you wouldn't be able to see all the events in a 30 minute episode.

I wanted to share this ages ago. That's my theory, too. They were, as Twilight said, "ordinary everyday objects," until they were touched by the magic of friendship. I still would have liked to have seen Pinkie trying to stuff Boneless into the keyhole, though. Poor Boneless.

Yeah, I thought that was the plan from the start.
Also, the finale confirms that Celestia has dreams about the future. Might explain her chessmaster moments.

That's right. I made this prediction ages ago (I think I told you Syd) and that's exactly what happened. Of course with ponies, it's not really hard to guess what will happen. It is a kids show after all.

I still wish they had given more exposition on the tree of harmony. But I think I'm the only one.
Season 4 was good, and I agree with most of the statements above. The finale was epic, a few of the other episodes were really good (Simple Ways cracked me up), etc.

I just to say too that yes, I wish we knew more about the tree and yes, Celestia's (and Luna's) dream sight is both cool and helps to explain a lot of the behind the scenes stuff.
