Any Americans here like to listen to anything in particular for July 4?
I like to spin Brian Wilson's Smile and Havalina Rail Co's America. This year I added Dick Dale's Surfer's Choice to the mix.

I don't really listen to anything in particular for the holiday. Although this afternoon I wasted about an hour listening to Slam Jam remixes on Youtube. Such as this one, which actually mixes the two songs really well:

I love this thread now, as it's introduced me to a lot of nice songs. Here, let me share something too: My friends say I should have been born ten years before I was due to my taste in music.

Johnny Warman's "Screaming Jets" was a hit in England in 1981, but I don't think it charted here in the States. Peter Gabriel supplies backing vocals. Warman was tinkering with the arrangement right up until the last minute, so he was giving cues to Gabriel and the band. "Chorus," "Again," "G," "A," and something else I can't decipher. He decided to leave them in.

Hey Applelight, I recently picked up Electronic's self-titled album, and I think it'd be right up your alley. Assuming you haven't already heard it. It's got what's-his-name from New Order and what's-his-face from The Smiths, and the Pet Shop Boys help out on a few tracks.

Thanks for letting me know!

The band People hit the Top 40 in 1968 with their cover of the Zombies' "I Love You".

@applelight: What exactly would you consider your "alley"? I just ask because it seems that mine (prog rock and metal) seems to be a bit different from everyone else's.

My alley...I'd say punk, ska, electric and bands such as Happy Mondays, Black Grape, The Farm, Stone Roses etc. So it's a wide mix. Incidentally, all my friends have been into metal!

I've never really listened to much of those. I occasionally listen to punk, but that's about it. Such as this:

The Offspring are OK...I prefer The Clash.

Oh man, The Clash are the best. Especially London Calling and Sandinista!.
I guess when it comes to punk I prefer the "play whatever you feel like" approach over the "you're not really punk if you're using more than two chords" approach.
