To be fair, the "there is another" thing might not have necessarily meant that there weren't any others with the necessary force ability to fight Vader so much as that those were the only ones that they were aware of, or realistically capable of training in that time frame. But other than that, yeah, pretty much spot on.

Really well put, thank you Mezzaphor.
Personally, I like the idea of the Force being rooted in belief and faith and thus open to everyone (makes it more special imo), but I can accept the alternative.

I take it as that it's technically available to everyone to some degree, but only a few will actually be able to achieve Jedi-level feats with it. Sort of like how anyone can pick up a pen and draw stick figures, but not everyone will become a great artist.

Yeah, I think it's something like that. One of the Lucasfilm continuity gurus posted something on Twitter, how all living things are connected to the Force, so anyone can tap into it to a minor degree, sometimes without even realizing. Like, someone with a sudden string of good luck was subconsciously using the Force to influence events in their favor.

I've seen those before, but they never get old. Mark Hamill is hilarious.

He is. And I like that theory too. If Star Wars is going to be around for the foreseeable future, what other plot lines can they use? Maybe a galactic droid liberation front?

Grey Jedi. Or whatever they want to use as a faction that taps into the dark side without becoming evil megalomaniac wizard overlords.

Droid liberation would be interesting, but a bit awkward and super easy to mess up. Droids are pretty much slaves in the SW galaxy. The movie heroes to date have treated their own droids well, but are still totally okay with the institution of owning a sapient lifeform just because it's mechanical. The movies get away with it now because they just ignore that fact. If they try to actually tackle that in a movie, they'd have to acknowledge that all our Star Wars heroes have been complicit in a system of droid abuse and exploitation on a massive scale ... and there might be temptation for the writers to just uphold the status quo and make the droid liberation movement the bad guys.

Yeah, I feel like it would be way too hard to pull that off without having massive issues. I'd personally guess that some other form of evil force users show up, maybe with shades of popular sentiment turning against force users in general because of it. I mean, think about it, the Jedi ended getting themselves wiped out, the Empire was run by a Sith lord. Luke Skywalker buggered off to nowhere rather than fight the First Order, which is also led by a Sith.
Then again, it wouldn't really follow well with what we've seen in the last movie, where other force sensitives are starting to crop up and rebooting the Jedi and all.
Maybe they'll borrow some of the Yuzhaan Vong stuff from the old EU.

From what I heard, the original Yuzhaan Vong story arc had some issues, but the Vong themselves are a great concept for an enemy faction, and they'd definitely be epic enough to support another whole trilogy.

Yeah, I'm thinking the best route would be to take the best parts of that concept and polish them up. It would definitely be workable.

They’re the force immune beings from another galaxy yes? Definitely an idea there. Although I’ve seen pics of them and they look like vampire orcs. Didn’t scream Star Wars to me. But...they are aliens. Really alien aliens too, so maybe they shouldn’t look like typical Star Wars.

Well, you could always modify their appearance so they fit in a bit better.

Yeah, the concept of "aliens from outside the galaxy, who aren't connect to the Force, so even the Jedi are at a loss for how to deal with them" is the important part, I think. Their appearances are negotiable, and I'm not a huge fan of all their ships being organic/biotech.

A trilogy featuring something like the Yuzhaan Vong would certainly be worth looking into. Actually is it worth reading the Vong material?
