That's exactly it. They're realistic as pony manes but not human hair. Hell, there's even something about this EG design that bugs me. I could do it different but if I went too far then it wouldn't look like rarity, you know?

Ugh, when I attempted to draw pones, Rarity's hair made me want to kill something.

Yeah, her's is by far the hardest of all the mane six to do. Also I tweaked that drawing: Derpibooru wasn't impressed with it however.

It looks a little pixel-y.

It does dosen't it? That's probably the result of doing it by finger on a touchpad. I can never get the same results I got whilst using a tablet.

So, tonight I managed to create some human AJ, despite great pain to my finger. It's only when I see it here do I really notice the wobbly lines. I ended up going more realistic than I did with the Rarity pic. I couldn't decide if cartoony or realistic-ish is the best way to go. That's far from perfect of course, but how did I do converting AJ's mane style into a human hairstyle? Is she too burly, just right or not enough?

...Why are her arms fuzzy while the rest of her body is sharp?
Anyway, personally I it's mostly good, although I think the shoulders are a little too broad.

They're probably fuzzy because they where done separately (at different sizes) and then joined with the rest of her which is a really bad idea now that I think of it. I also used a pic of Powergirl and one of the Heavy from TF2's sisters as a reference for her arms, torso and hair respectively. It's all a scratchy mess, and always will be until I get a tablet/mouse, but at the moment I'm more interested in the concept rather than getting it neat y'know? I can worry about refining them later when I have the right tools again.

The face and the hair remind me more of a grown up Babs Seed then AJ. I also think she looks a bit thin given how broad her shoulders and arms appear.

So should I take her shoulders and arms in, or thicken the rest of her? Would the heavy's Sister seen here be a good example? As for her hair, I guess I should go back to the drawing board.

I would say that works better. I imagine Applejack being more on the burly side.
As for her hair, I would go with long hair since she usually has it tied up in the show.

Ditto. Though I'd also be sure that you're careful to actually draw her as burly, but still feminine as opposed to the "draw a man and put boobs on" approach that some artists use. And yeah, long hair. AJ's mane is pretty long.

Hair right down her back? Or just to her shoulders?

I'd say somewhere in the middle.

Works for me. Thanks guys. If I was a better artist I'd be able to figure this out myself.
