"We've got several different personality programs you can install in these droids. There's the Rambo, which will run you 8000 credits, and there's the Mandalore Commando, which is 9000 credits, or your Basic Infantry for 5000 credits."
"Hmm. Do you have anything cheaper?"
"Well, there's the Larry, Moe, & Curly, which is 200 credits, but that's not—"
"We'll take it!"

Fantastic! I seriously loled that, thank you! Also, I had another thought. Remember I was saying how the Republic should have had a navy right from the beginning? And it should have looked more or less like the later imperial one (uniforms and symbols etc)? Will how about this idea; it had the venator class star destroyer as its main ship (that's the one from attack of the clones that looks like a star destroyer but is smaller) but it's small craft fleet was made up x-wings, y-wings and a-wings! Before the war, they could afford to have these ships with their shields and hyperdrives in small numbers because the republican navy was primarily peace keeping/policing. And they cared about the safety of the pilots. But come the war, they need numbers, not quality. So the 'wing' ships all get phased out and replaced with early versions of tie fighters. Which, although they are faster, have better guns and targeting systems and are more manoverable, they're much cheaper and have no shields or hyperdrive. Because it's about feeding pilots into the meat grinder to match the vast numbers of droid fighters, not keeping them safe. And the lack of hyperdrive is ok because they have more star destroyers to act as carriers for them. Not only does this idea show where our iconic ships all came from, and shows that the poor rebellion has to use battered 30-40 year old gear, but it would also show the good republican navy literally turning into the bad imperial one. What do you think?

That would be pretty cool. The Republic turning into the Empire was one of the most interesting things to come out of the PT.

@applelight Limited: I'm pretty sure that's more or less what happened in the old EU. The alliance craft however came from stolen plans for high performance craft, or at least that was the explanation for the X-Wing.
It does make for the rather hilarious situation that the empire with all the resources of the galaxy to call upon are using the equivalent of Mirage F1s for their fighters, while the plucky, resource strapped rebels are flying around in the equivalent of F-14Ds.
As for the Republic turning into the Empire, a friend of mine and I agreed it felt pretty natural for that to happen, especially if you view Palpatine as populist authoritarian figure rooting out the corrupt government and duplicitous private interest. I mean, the separatist are essentially made up of corporate and mercantile interest so it make sense for them to be framed as an enemy that requires a strong leader to uproot. It's kind of too bad that instead of that they framed Palpatine's control as him being an evil wizard with subtle mind control magic(which makes later events make less sense).

I want to revive this thread again because there's so many cool ideas in here (I especially like Mezzaphors idea of both sides using clones due to intrigue!)
I have a suggestion for the Jedi. In the prequels I don't like how 'out in the open' they are. Especially since in the original and sequel trilogies they're practically mythical. I know the Empire can suppress the memory of them but there are still people around who were alive then. So I would suggest making the Jedi a secret organisation within the Republic. Only top Republican Officials fully know who they are, and to everyone else they're either not real or are real but the stories about their 'powers' are made up or greatly exaggerated. They worked in the shadows for the greater good. Even in the Clone Wars they're more like the CIA/OSS rather than the leaders.
