Well, I mean as far as we know the rebooted version is keeping most of the same cast, so it definitely seems like they want to keep it tied to gen4. Which makes sense considering how popular it is.

That could be pretty interesting. I'd personally want to ramp up the fantasy and magic elements over the science type stuff, but either could work.

What kind of ideas are they coming up with?

The main source of inspiration from Blackadder is the general "reasonable person who has to put up with all the crap of his peers" setup, although in this case it's more that the peers are simply misguided or just generally odd rather than being total morons. ;p

Now that I think about it is slightly similar, yeah. Although personally I envisioned the "assistant" character as more like a (much) less stupid version of Baldrick from Blackadder.

Looks pretty sweet. I still have no clue how you manage to get so much detail on those things.
Here's the next character idea for that sitcom thing:
I haven't nailed down their exact role yet, though currently I kinda envision them as being a sort of secretary/administrative assistant type thing. Like the protag they ultimate want what's best for the colony, but personality-wise, they're polar opposites. They're extremely excitable and enthusiastic to the point that it clouds their judgment, and while they understand sarcasm, they almost never use it. Their main flaw is that their enthusiasm for whatever they're doing usually outstrips their ability to actually implement their plans. The plans aren't always bad, but often they have obvious flaws that someone who's more pragmatic and less gung-ho would see (such as the main protagonist).

I remember seeing some of those on TV and thinking that the voices sounded a lot like H*R.

Okay, so the other character that I have somewhat fleshed out is basically an AI who facilitates the colony's communication networks and helps them process the data that they receive. The main thing I'd do with their personality is try to filter out all of the usual AI cliches, meaning:
* The AI doesn't have Pinocchio syndrome, aka "I wish I were human" feelings.
* Conversely, they don't have superiority complex and believe themselves to be better than humanity because of their processing power.
* They have a very minimal amount of existential angst. They're fully aware of the fact that they were created by humans for the purpose of assisting them in running the colony, and is totally okay with this. They are also aware of the fact that they were programmed to be okay with that, and are okay with that fact as well.
* None of that "what is this human emotion of friendship/love/laughter/sadness?" stuff. They're sapient enough to have a pretty decent grasp of how emotions work.
* However, as a result of that, the AI ended being pretty good at using snark and sarcasm, and enjoys messing with the rest of the cast on occasion. This means that while it will help them and provide information as requested, it'll pretty much always frame its information in whatever way amuses it most.

That would be hilarious. But yeah, I'm really curious to see where they go with this.

Well, so far the basic outline I have for the cast is this:
* The "Main" character, as far as their is a main character (I envision it as more of an ensemble thing) is the guy whose job is defined as the "Coordinator", it's intentionally vague because it allows for more flexibility. It's also true in-universe, as his job is basically a catch-all for stuff the actual higher-ups can't be bothered to deal with. Personality-wise, he's kind of the straight man to everyone else. He has a mildly cynical and seen-it-all mentality, mainly due to the fact that he has to put up with the shenanigans of the rest of the cast, but it mostly just manifests as snark. However, as a result, it also means that it's not hard to push him past the point of giving a crap, so he's more than willing to let everybody else try to pull off their schemes even when he knows it's going to blow up in their faces. Despite that, he ultimately does have the colony's best interests at heart, and what he ultimately wants is for the colony to really feel like a home in and of itself rather than just an experimental outpost. So he's big on stuff like trying to figure out how to cook new food, get people from the colony involved in starting up some sort of sports program, etc. Stuff that makes it feel like an actual town with its own identity.
Obviously, he's the one who I have fleshed out the most at the moment. I do have ideas for a few of the other characters, but I'll post them later, because right now I'm super tired.

Yeah, I remember that concept. You posted some art for it, if I remember right.
I'd love to try writing out a few scenes for the sitcom thing, but I'd have to actually settle who the cast would be first. Maybe I'll mull it over a bit more at work.

I'm doing okay. Just waiting for the next time I get a long weekend. I actually just recently started getting into One Piece again. I tried reading it once and it didn't really click with me, even though I read pretty far in. Then a few weeks ago I picked up the first omnibus on a whim and for whatever reason I'm enjoying it a lot more this time around. I'm not sure exactly why that is.
Also, while I was at work today, I randomly had an idea for a sci-fi themed sitcom. The basic premise is that it's basically a slice of life show in the vein of Seinfeld or Fraiser, except the cast are part of the administration of a newly landed space colony on a distant planet. Most of the plotlines would focus on the more mundane elements of trying to run a colony, and the shenanigans that result.
A few sample plot ideas that I came up with:
* The cast decides that the planet needs a real name because it's official designation is just a bunch of numbers and letters. They decide to let the colony's population vote on the name, and it ends up going exactly the way you'd expect it to when you use a vote to name something important.
* The exploration team discovers the first major landmark near the site of their colony. Unfortunately, it's a mountain that's shaped almost exactly like a butt, and they're at a loss as to how to handle this.
* The cast gets sick of eating the rations they brought with them and attempts to start creating new cuisine out of the local wildlife.
* Obligatory Christmas Episode: One of the characters' kids somehow manages to believe in Santa, while remaining skeptical of Santa's ability to deliver presents to other planets.

It does have a pretty big backlog, but the size is honestly less of an issue than the fact that it has a lot of inside jokes and running gags, and they're all spread around the different sets of cartoons. There isn't much in the way of continuity, but you won't get all the jokes unless you watch them in the order they were released, which isn't always clear. That said, even if you watch them out of order, they're still really entertaining.
