The thing that gets me the most is that apparently Ponyville is literally a suburb of Canterlot in this comic. Kind of reminds me of the totally not TV newscast turned Theater newsreel in her micro. RD comics get all of the anachronism.

Oh dear, not again.

Again? I know people thought the newscast turned newsreel was weird but I don't think people thought it was that bad. Though a lot of people did dislike the RD micro for some other reason.

I think it was just too much of a departure from canon for some people. The other micros all made stronger efforts to stick to the show's. RD's was way more overtly cartoony.

In general, the style was a real departure from the more consistent tone of the show. The gremlins sort of appear out of nowhere, the tech level fluctuates dramatically (tv and whatnot) and RD's dialogue has a bit of a Totally Radical vibe to it. I can't exactly put my finger on what it is, but it's definitely different from the show.

A lot of the comics (and other FiM media) come across like heavy handed fan fics to me. I wonder what makes that one stand out the most.

I just read the Fluttershy/Iron Will FF comic. It was pretty good. I thought the out vegetables on my head you'll end up dead line was pretty funny.

So I'm reading issue 25 and three things jump out at me; Rarity is such a flirt. Pinkie with the Ghost Chillie was hilarious. There is a great bit of wordplay between Rainbow And Fluttershy. And immediately we see that some jokes are too bad even for Pinkie to find funny.

Speaking of issue 25, I have to ask: What the hell was up with Twilight's "Not using her magic on non-monster so she doesn't abuse her powers" bull crap {Pun not intended}? The bulls were hurting innocent ponies for fun, including her friends. I think helping her friends and fellow ponies out would be perfectly justified in that case. Plus, if she didn't want to hurt them, she could just restrain them just like she did with her friends in Castle Mania. And she's used magic on hostile citizens before {The Pirate arc, where she zaps the pirates who try to kidnap her for ransom money}. Nice job keeping Twilight in-character and totally not making her look like a hypocritical jerk/idiot, Katie.
On a more positive note, what's your favorite arc in the comics so far? Mine would probably be either the Nightmare Rarity arc or the Bookworm one.

Normally I'm OK with whatever the comics or indeed show does but for once that was something I just couldn't agree with, for the reasons you said. It just doesn't make any sense, and goes against what we've seen in the past too. She's never had a problem with using her magic on people before. Why the change? I know why, and for me it weakens the whole story. There would be no story if she used her magic, which is the reason why she's adopted this new code (don't tell me otherwise ). It can't be because she's now a princess, because in other cases she's been OK using her magic on others post-upgrade It all kinda goes to show how OP Twilight is as well. She could easily end this whole thing with one spell. Imagine the ginger rage about that. And my favorite arc is probably the Changeling one. It set the bar high for the comics as a whole. In other news, Friends Forever #12 is delayed. That's annoying. I was looking forward to it.

Yeah, I think the changeling one is my favorite as well. Mainly because Chrysalis was hilarious.

As other people have said, they could have easily written Twilight out of the story. From what I have seen there is no need for her to be there. The fact that they did that is really unnecessary.
Another apparent issue with the story that I hear about less often is that apparently the bulls were in a previous story in which the girls took care of them easily. However, in this story they are apparently nigh invincible for some reason. Is that actually correct?
