You need to find some sort of realistic middle ground for AJ's body. She's a hard-working farm gal, but she's not the Incredible Hulk.
I could have sworn you had some AJ art on DeviantArt where I thought you'd nailed it, but I can't find it now.

Also here's another pic of the reference: Is she a good model to follow? Not too burly? I do think AJ should be burly. I think if FIM was in a more modern setting she'd be able to lift cars.

Latest effort on AJ: The source is obvious. How does this look? Still bad I know, but is the hair, face and body there now? I do like the hair myself...but is it suitably Applejack?

I rather like it as a first draft. I think the hair does work for AJ.

Well, I've been arting again. This time I've been trying to draw realistically. It's AJ again (I don't know why I keep picking her. Alphabetical order I suppose). I've also been trying to draw AJ as a 'handsome woman', with a strong jaw and cheekbones. Probably because she's the most sensible and mature of the six. Here is the end result. Any thoughts? Should I continue to try realistic style or stick to a cartoony one?

Nice. I'd say this is my favorite of your AJ drawings to date. The thin lines you used for her lips really don't fit in with the heavier lines you used for most of the drawing, though.

Yeah, I'm still having trouble with that. It's hard to keep them right when using your finger on a touchpad. It's really obvious that I did it separately and added it on.

Yeah, the lips definitely look pasted on. General concept is good though.

Erugh, yeah the lips are bugging me.

Look at what my dad found today: Probably the best piece of art I did in school. And I completely forgot about it. It was lying in a folder in my room for neigh on seven years. He wants to hang it up on the wall! I'm pretty happy about that.

Yeah, that's a pretty nice picture. Better than anything I'd be able to paint.

Thanks guys. Yeah that's what I could do with the proper gear and the time to do it in. Far from perfect but I'm pretty happy with it. I remember it got favourable comments at the gallery we held for our work, yet it was the other one I did that got sold. The one I was less happy with. I wonder if I should put up on my DA. Might be weird next to all the questionable pony stuff.

It would hardly be the weirdest thing on DA.
