Can I ask what ideas have been made so far, so that I know what you're all thinking?

Well the big idea so far has been a cooperative game where you control a character in ponyville and go around making friends and other activities.
I could go into details, but I'm not really sure if the game in my head is the same game JTeeth has in his.

Well, here's what I'm thinking for my take on it. The board would be sort of like Settlers of Catan in that it's made up of a bunch of hexagonal pieces so the board is a bit different each time. There would be seven places on board (Town Hall, Twilight's Library/Castle, Sugarcube Corner, Carousel Boutique, Sweet Apple Acres, Fluttershy's Cottage, and Rainbow Dash's house) that remain in the same location each time. Then you'd fill in the gaps with the other pieces. Each piece you put in would have three spaces with different effects (which I'll explain later). You could have up to six players, one with each pony. And each pony would have a special skill that they could use under certain circumstances (i.e. like for Twilight it would be something like if you roll doubles, you can teleport to any of the other locations).
Here are some examples of what the spaces might be:
1) Task spaces: These give you a goal to accomplish. Haven't decided whether you'd be able to do more than one at a time.
2) Event spaces: You'd draw an event card that would be something like "Bee attack; proceed to nearest building" or "Sprain ankle in CMC encounter, roll only one die next turn"
3) Building spaces: additional locations that can be shuffled around; Cheerilee's Schoolhouse, Hayburger, CMC clubhouse, stuff like that.
4) Pony spaces: Additional non-player ponies; Derpy, Lyra, Bon Bon, Dr. Whooves, Etc. They'd be part of the goals.
5) Resource squares. Landing on these squares would let you collect resources that can be used for goals, like bits, gems, and food or something.
The goal of the game is to do something like getting a certain number of points. You get points for accomplishing tasks around Ponyville (the board), and you can do so with the help of other ponies. You could also set it up so there's only one goal that everyone is working towards. The game would basically proceed like this:
1) The first person to go rolls the dice, and moves. When they land on an "task" space, they draw a card that has a goal for them to accomplish, worth a certain number of points depending on how difficult it is to accomplish. Some of the tasks might require help from other players; i.e. the goal could be "Throw a birthday party for Bon Bon"
2) Once everyone has a goal, you keep moving around the board doing things to meet goals. You'd also get points for helping others achieve their goals, so there'd be more incentive to work together. For example, "Throw a Party for Bon Bon" might have requirements like "go to Sugarcube Corner to buy a cake (using bits), take it to Bon Bon, have three other ponies on that hex, and have a certain amount of food"
3) You and the other characters move around the board to get the things you need for the goal. Go to a resource space to get money to buy a cake, collect food, and then get other ponies to move to the Bon Bon space. You could also do stuff like giving the cake to someone else (if your pony is on an adjacent space) so they can deliver it while you go get other food or something.
4) Once you meet the requirements, you get points and you can pick up another goal card. The win conditions could be either individual (get ten points) or a group effort (get 20 points total with each player completing at least one goal).

That sounds like both a good solid board game and totally within the spirit of the show. If nobody objects I say you should go with that. I could work on some event, task and resource ideas too if you want? A resource space for example could be as simple as 'paint fence, earn x bits'?

Something like that, yeah. One of these days I'll have to put together a sort of mockup of what I'd want the board to look like.

Okay, here's a quick version of what the board might look like: Town hall is in the middle, and each of the six other things are the locations of Twilight's Library (or castle), Sweet Apple Acres, Fluttershy's cottage, Sugarcube Corner, Rainbow Dash's house, and Rarity's Boutique. The stuff around the border are the different areas around the edges of the town; the Everfree Forest by Twilight's house, farmland by AJ, regular forest by Fluttershy, fields by Pinkie Pie, mountainous area (think Ghastly Gorge) by RD, and dirt areas for Rarity (the stuff she was mining in A Dog and Pony Show). All the other green hexes will be filled in differently in each game. I'm planning to have 25 Pony spaces. These are the ponies I have in the list thus far, but if we wanted to add others we could, by combining groups. Like making the CMC a single space instead of listing them separately, same for Bon Bon and Lyra, Silver Spoon and Diamond Tiara, etc. Also, some of the ponies I didn't list because they'll be part of the building spaces. Like the Cakes will be at Sugarcube Corner, and the spa ponies will be at the spa. And I'm saving non-Ponyville ponies (Vinyl/Octavia, etc.) for task and event cards. Derpy Cheerilee Lyra Bon Bon Scootaloo Sweetie Belle Apple Bloom Snips Snails Nurse Redheart Mr. Greenhooves Cherry Berry Time Turner/Dr. Hooves Thunderlane Rumble Daisy Lilly Rose Berry Punch Diamond Tiara Silver Spoon Minuette Zecora Twist Pipsqueak Also, I need suggestions for locations. All I've got so far are: Spa Cheerilee’s Schoolhouse Hayburger CMC’s clubhouse Joke Shop Market Cafe Movie theater Hospital And I need 25 total.

I have to admit, that's not exactly what I had in mind, but it probably works better as a game for a younger audience then what I had in mind.
Nice board by the way.

Thanks. I made it using an online mapping thing called "Hexographer".
And yeah, I know it wasn't what you were thinking of, but I figured that we could have multiple versions floating around. And you're more than welcome to make suggestions to my version if you want.

And you're more than welcome to make suggestions to my version if you want. I too want to compliment the board. It's very good and gives a clear indication of what the game is about. And don't forget too that there's no reason why there can't be multiple pony board games too.

The most obvious kind of game to me is a resource sharing/trading game... unfortunately, I have no experience with those kinds of games, either design or play-wise.

The only one of those I'm familiar with is Catan. And Monopoly, if that counts. I tried to base my version off of something similar, but more team-based.

Well, the way I've been thinking and refining my idea for a boardgame it seems to be more like a mini-RPG, which admittedly is what several boardgames, particularly cooperative ones are.
Anyway, the idea I feel I have settled on is that at the beginning of the game each player picks a character who will have unique stats and/or abilities that govern how they move and what they do. They are also each given a quest at the beginning (or pick one if the playing group so desires)and start at the edge of Ponyville. The idea is that each character has come to Ponyville to resolve a particular issue that can range from the mundane (has come to pick out a wedding dress), to the mysterious (tracking down changelings).
Each player has certain number of things they need to do to complete their quest, and they can't do it alone. Not only do they need to coordinate with the other player characters, but they need to enlist the aid of Ponyville's residents. On each place that a person lands on (representing locations in Ponyville), in addition to whatever function it serves the player roles a dice to see which Ponyville residences happen to be there while the player is at the location. The player then has the option to have his character befriend the Ponyville resident which allows them control of an additional character to perform task and accomplish goals.
The players must coordinate with each others "circle of friends" if they want to accomplish what they came to do in Ponyville.
A pretty bare bones idea at the moment, but one that I think can be built upon.

Yeah, that sounds really interesting, if a bit complex. There'd be a lot to keep track of. It could still be really fun, though.

Yeah, those are pretty cool, though it's sort of a different genre of thing.
