That would be cool, though I wonder how complex the system of actions and such would need to be to balance that. I guess that would depend on how characters work.

That's another good question. Would playing as different pony types influence how you play the game?

I would imagine so. Each player would have different "circle of friends" and thus would have different mix things that they can do.

Would they have racial abilities? Like would a pegasi get to move extra spaces or something?

I imagined that they would each have unique abilities. Not sure exactly who would get what though.

For pegasi moving extra spaces makes the most sense. Not sure what EPs or unicorns would have, though.

Why I had talked abilities I imagined them to be unique to each character rather then race. Though I've been having other thoughts on that as well.

I figured it would just be easier to keep track of this way, especially if you'd want it to be something young kids could play.

I really wouldn't be that difficult to keep track of if you just put it explicitly on their character.
That being said it probably is getting too detailed for game meant to be played by kids, and would be difficult to balance. I still want the individual characters to feel unique gameplay wise, but that will probably need to be accomplished through simpler means.

It's tough to strike that balance. You want to make it easy to pick up, but not so easy that there's an absence of strategy.

True enough. I guess a good metric (I think) would be if such a game is as tougher then say, the card game that's currently out.

I haven't played that, so I don't know how complicated it is. Then again, I could understand the Pokemon card game just fine when I was in fourth grade.

That actually tells me that kids can handle quite a bit.
Going back to the characters I think another way to possible differentiate them is to give them some simple "stats", like how quickly they move or how smart they are.
Another possibility is that instead of unique abilities for everyone, have smaller list of abilities that ponies can have, and then have only a couple of them appear on their character cards.

Apart from Monopoly I've not really played many board games (do buckeroo and pop-up pirate count? ) so I'm not much use to this discussion, but I hope I can be of some use.

You don't necessarily have had to played boardgames to contribute. Though a basic idea of how any kind of game (be it video, card, tabletop ect.) works is useful. I think I'm going to eventually want to collect the concepts that JTeeth and I have kind of been throwing around into something concrete.
If you want to get a vague (and I do emphasize vague) idea of the kind of gameplay (and emphasize only gameplay) I'm envisioning (I'm not sure about JTeeth) you can look at these videos. . .
