New Order has both versions available for streaming on youtube. Here's the extended version: www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLYPsRgFn5c4tEHiikL5RMiqZwGlw_OjuvIt's a lot more electronic than their last few albums. And Peter Hook isn't with the band anymore, but the new bassist is doing his own thing rather than trying to copy him.

I just found out about the weirdest damn music. Exigence by Mass Extinction Event. Here's the link to the youtube playlist, because the craziness makes a little more sense when you can see the orchestra (and the projection behind them, synched up to the performance): www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLBcZM94cb2UxZO_BsF28BOc0wdxiGOlsAIt's modern big-band jazz, mixed with metal and electronics and freaking internet memes. what is this I can't even

I mentioned in the main thread that I started playing Civ 4. Well, now I have this song stuck in my head:

Big news for musicians I care about... Orbital are back (again)! They're mostly playing live shows, and I don't think they're coming to the States anytime soon so I can't see them. But they also have a new single out, which gives me hope that a full album will follow eventually. It sounds like the 90s and I love it. Ronnie Martin of Joy Electric, my other favorite electronic musician, started a side project called Said Fantasy and put out the first album under that name. (Finally. He's been working on this since 2010.) It's vintage synths, and most of the arrangements are pretty stripped-down, and Ronnie's singing is rougher and deeper than ever before. Dude barely sounds like himself. I kinda think this is the sort of music Joy Division would have made in the alternate universe where Ian Curtis didn't commit suicide and the band went fully synthpop with him.And Sufjan Stevens, Nico Muhly, Bryce Dessner, and James McAlister collaborated on Planetarium, an album about the solar system. It's got a few piano pieces, a bit of electric guitar, a lot of synthesizers, and a string quartet and eight trombone players. It's kind of like space itself, in that there's lots of voids where nothing much happens, punctuated by moments of shocking beauty. I guess the three official music videos show off the breadth of the album: "Mercury", "Saturn", and "Venus".

I've been listening to a lot of Ben Folds lately, because one of my favorite bands (Counting Crows) specifically name-drops him in one of their songs. I usually don't pay that sort of thing much mind, but one day I got curious, and here we are.
A lot of his songs have this soothing quality, and I'm not sure if it's the voice or the pianos or both. All I know is he's quickly becoming a new favorite.

If you guys have been following videogames at all, you may have heard about Cuphead. It's a throwback to run-n-gun games like Contra and such, but with visuals and animation that are a spot-on emulation of cartoons from the 1930s. It looks great, but I'm probably not gonna get it myself because that gameplay isn't really my thing. But I bought the soundtrack, because it's just as good. studiomdhr.bandcamp.com/releases It's a spot-on recreation of jazz from that era, but with much better recording quality.

Yeah, Cuphead is pretty amazing all around. Though it is also very difficult. Seriously it's ridiculous. And yeah, the soundtrack is awesome.
Speaking of which, I've been listening to Fleetwood Mac's Rumours lately. It still holds up.

I’ve been seeing this cuphead everywhere. What platform is it on? And old timey jazz is always cool.

Microsoft helped fund the game, so it's just on X-box and PCs for the foreseeable future.
My favorite track is "Honeycomb Herald", because it sounds so much like Duke Ellington's "Caravan".
EDIT: Looks like this is my 1234th post.

I heard Fairy Tale of New York today. For me, it's definitely Christmas time.

Nice.
I've been listening to Sufjan's Christmas EPs to get me in the mood. Though I just got some Wire albums (Change Becomes Us and Silver / Lead, their newest) so I have to give those a listen.
