Especially since they've been gone for 1000 years.

It did strike me as odd that Luna spoke in sorta-Shakespearean due to her 1000 years of isolation, but the crystal ponies didn't. I'm forced to conclude that Luna's way of speaking was already antiquated 1000 years ago.

Yeah, it is kind of odd that the crystal empire ponies didn't have a major freak-out due to culture shock when they came back.

Ponyville bartender (to crystal pony): "Mead"? We don't have anything called mead. How about a beer, or some cider?

The empire does seem quite advanced though, what with the train and nice houses etc.

The train station was well outside the city at first, and the crystal train didn't show up until a season and a half after the Crystal Empire returned.

I'm telling myself that was a different train station, and that no trains were allowed to enter or leave the Crystal Empire proper while King Mumbles was a threat because it would mean lowering the protective shield.

The houses themselves might not be that advanced. We have no idea what the state of the amenities might be.

To be fair nothing within the city itself had really changed, so they kind of had the opportunity to adapt slowly as new things were introduced. There was probably a big "Dafuq is dat?" moment when the first tourists started to arrive, but I think they could have easily been weaned onto the new stuff.
Plus from what I hear, depression has a way of making you pretty accepting of whatever goes on, so...

The other thing is that Equestria seems to have mild Medieval Stasis thing going on, so culture and technology probably hasn't shifted as much as it would in real life. It probably has some, but it's not quite the equivalent of going from 1000 AD to 2000 AD.

I see the the reason for Crystal pony modern speech as Cadance's powers.
Also, this modern society saved them from Sombra. It must be cool! Let's become more like it!

That might be it, although Cadance seems to be a bit more connected to romance. I wonder if Luna might ever consider visiting to interact with ponies from back in the day.
