First CMC episode since they got their marks. So what do they do now?
No, seriously, what do they do now?
Oddly structured episode: much like the CMC, it doesn't know what to do. The climax involves a subplot that doesn't show up until the episode is half over.

Also, apparently this is the first episode not to feature any of the mane six.

Yeah, none of the mane cast or Spike ever get so much as a cameo. Anyway, on one hand, I agree with Meta. The middle part of the episode is kind of aimless and it feels like the first and last parts of the episode (the CMC not knowing what to do next, and Apple Bloom worrying about growing apart from her friends) seem a bit disconnected, like they sort of grafted two separate concepts onto each other.
On the other hand, I think they did a really good job of addressing most of the issues they brought up. It's good that they managed to show that the CMC have grown a bit, but also that they still have their insecurities. In particular, it really makes sense for Apple Bloom to have issues, as she was always the most anxious about the whole thing. So on that front I thought that episode worked really well by shaking up the dynamic between the Crusaders in a way that sends them in a new direction while still being consistent with their characterizations.
Honestly I'd put it near the top of the CMC episode list mainly because it averts their typical aesop amnesia.

I just got around to watching it. I pretty much agree with you guys. It was a bit all over the place but it handled the subject matter well enough. Good to know that the Crusaders will still have a purpose.
