Pinkie and Rarity are an odd pairing, but they work well here. As a friend of mine pointed out, Pinkie and Maud are both equally bizarre characters—they're just strange in opposite ways—so they both need somepony else to act as a straight man.
Pinkie's efforts to join every family, ever, continue apace.
Maud is, of course, best pony.

That's exactly it. They're both oddballs, on the same side of the wacky spretrum, but it manifests in opposite ways. And I love that.

Of course, their weirdness does start rubbing off on Rarity a bit: But seriously I thought Rarity and Pinkie really worked well together, which is good seeing as they really don't interact much outside of the larger group. It's nice to see that they really do mesh on an individual basis. In general I thought it was nice to have a more character-driven episode after all the more epic stuff.

Guys I finally watched this episode and I absolutely loved it. As JT said it's great to see how good Rarity and Pinkie Pie are together, and the humor and heart in it were fanatastic. The 'psssd' and swan jokes had me genuinely laughing. It's to see how after six seasons the show is still going as strong as ever.

....Now that I look at that gif again it's really impressive that Rarity manages to hold the camera that still while she's bouncing around.
